Fram & Sax News & Cat Care November 2016

The Fram and Sax Cats Protection teams look forward to welcoming you at our next fundraising events. The Christmas Fair at the United Reformed Church Hall, Southwold, will be on Saturday, 12 November between 10 am and 3pm; here you will find our popular range of CP Christmas cards and calendars, gifts, bric-a-brac, light refreshment, cat chat and advice. On the same day, you will also find us at the Saxmundham Rotary Charities fair in the Market Hall, Saxmundham between 10 am and 12:30pm. We look forward to seeing you.

Cat Care: Fireworks seem no longer to be confined to the night of 5 November, and we would like you to spare a thought for your feline friend this autumn. Whilst entertaining for us, the noise and flashing lights from fireworks can be distressing for pets. Behavioural problems could arise as a result of fear and stress including soiling of the home or excessive grooming, while there is also the danger of a cat running away. Ensure that you can enjoy the celebrations with the peace of mind that your cat will be safe and sound by following these simple tips: keep cats in after dark and provide them with a litter tray; make sure they feel secure in a settled familiar territory; ensure all doors and windows are securely closed and curtain are drawn; play soothing music; consider using a pheromone diffuser or spray (available from pet shops).

Catology:   The widespread use of 'tomcat' or just 'tom' to refer to male cats is said to have originated from a popular book published in 1760, 'The Life and Adventures of a Cat'. This anonymous work, often attributed to Henry Fielding, featured a promiscuous feline hero named Tom who granted his favours to many female felines on his travels.

Featured cats looking for a Home: We have another abundance of kittens, all shortly ready to be homed. If you are looking for the long-term pleasure that comes from giving a cat a home, please contact us or keep an eye on the website.
